The Future Reset: Diasporic Dreaming is a community-led initiative that seeks to support young people from African Diaspora communities through contemporary art outcomes.  

This project is built on the belief that the arts have the power to inspire, connect, and empower people. It seeks to create a safe space for creative experimentation, artistic presentation, and community building for young people through multi-disciplinary and cultural practises 

This first phase of the project echoes the codesign findings that reflect on the yearning for utopic dreaming of worlds that centres ancestral play, healing and black joy through art, and community connection. 

Footscray Community Arts and Next in Colour have partnered to deliver the second phase of the Future Reset project, titled Diasporic Dreaming. This collaboration is rooted in shared values and a commitment to deepening community engagement with African Diaspora communities. The project aims to provide cultural agency and curate impactful programming that benefits both the Footscray community and the broader Diaspora communities.

The project aims to: 

• Support young people from African Diaspora communities to develop sustainable creative practices and build relationships across the arts sector

• Build and strengthen cross-cultural connection across young people from African Diaspora, First Nations, and ally communities

• Support the mental health and wellbeing of young people through strengthening their agency in how they explore their creativity 

• Expand representation of Black art within the contemporary art space
